One of the most common questions I get from families booking a session is, “What should we wear?” And it makes sense. You want to feel confident. You want your kids to look like themselves. And you want your photos to feel timeless.

So let’s talk about what works.

Stick to light, natural colors

Soft, sun-washed tones always photograph beautifully on the beach. Think creams, pale blues, sage, soft tan, and dusty rose. These colors reflect the golden light and look stunning next to the sand and water.

Balance the outfits, don’t match

Instead of everyone wearing the same thing, pick two or three complementary colors and let each person wear something that fits their personality. One person in a textured cream dress, another in a soft blue linen shirt, another in neutral khakis—this kind of mix creates depth and connection without looking too styled.

Think about movement

The beach has wind. Dresses that move, shirts that drape, fabrics that catch the breeze—all of that adds life to your images. Long dresses or skirts work beautifully here, especially in natural fabrics like cotton or linen.

Simplify the details

No logos, no cartoon characters, no neon. Stick with solids or subtle patterns. Leave the shoes behind unless you really want them in the photos. Barefoot almost always looks better.

Bring what you need

Water, snacks, a towel or blanket to sit on, maybe a backup outfit for younger kids. Comfort makes all the difference, especially in Florida heat.
